Kristi Leigh Cornwell

Kristi CornwellKristi Leigh Cornwell (Cody) was taking her normal evening exercise walk down the street from her family's home in Blairsville, Georgia, at about 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday August 11th, 2009 while talking on her cell phone with her boyfriend, Douglas Davis.

He told the police that Kristi reported seeing a car approaching her. He then heard a struggle and Kristi yelled, "Don't take me". That was the last he heard.

During the subsequent investigation, police discovered signs of a struggle and some of Kristi's belongings along Jones Creek Road, a rural road in north Georgia. Police believe that Kristi, mother to a 15-year-old son, Brody, was abducted from that location.

Kristi's cell phone was found three days later, on Friday evening. A man was mowing his lawn when he found the phone, more than three miles from where investigators believe she was kidnapped.

Kristi's brother, Richard Cromwell, is encouraged that the phone was found along a major thoroughfare and not on the back road from which Kristi disappeared. He believes it indicates the kidnapper's route of travel, believed to be north on State Route 325, which means they could have driven into Tennessee or North Carolina or, of course, doubled back into Georgia.

"The belief is it was a kidnapping, and she is in danger," said John Bankhead, spokesman for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation believes Kristi was abducted by vehicle and authorities are now searching for a white SUV and a tan or gold subcompact car, possibly a Toyota or Nissan, that were seen in the area on the evening of August 11.
